Marco den Toom (1978) studied organ at the Utrecht Conservatory, where he was taught by Herman van Vliet, Charles de Wolff, Klaas Jan Mulder, and Jacques van Oortmerssen. Shortly after completing his formal education, he built a career as an independent musician. His musical style is characterized by an unconventional yet spontaneous approach. In addition to his love for the organ—and his mission to popularize the instrument—he has developed into a versatile musician.
His daily work primarily involves composing Christian songs and gospels, arranging and orchestrating existing music, recording for radio, TV, CDs, and DVDs, accompanying Christian choirs, and giving organ recitals. He is also the conductor of the large choir Jubilate Deo in Woudenberg. As of January 1, 2017, he serves as co-titular organist and musical ambassador of the great Van den Heuvel organ in the Nieuwe Kerk in Katwijk aan Zee.
Marco has also made a name for himself as a composer. He has written two major oratorios for choir, soloists, organ, and orchestra: Jezus op aarde (2007) and Jozef (2015). For the organ, he composed a Koraalboek bij de Psalmen (300 pages, 2011) and Toccata Ruisseau (2012). His work as an organist has been recorded on solo albums from locations such as Kampen (Bovenkerk), The Hague (Evangelical Lutheran Church), Dudelange (Saint-Martin), Kevelaer (Mariabasilika), and Paris (Saint-Eustache).
