Lydia van Mourik was born on December 23, 1987, in Rotterdam. At the age of five, she received her first recorder lessons and four years later continued with the transverse flute. Lydia pursued her private studies with Lenette Pauw, Gien Wagenaar, and Daniëlle van Laar. From 2008 to 2013, Lydia studied at the conservatory in Rotterdam in the Classical Music department, where she received lessons from Jo Hagen, Herman van Kogelenberg, and Juliëtte Hurel. Lydia also took piccolo lessons from Wim Steinmann and Vincent Cortvrint. In 2013, Lydia graduated and currently follows private lessons with various teachers. Lydia attended masterclasses with, among others, Wilbert Hazelzet, William Bennett, Gaby Pas-von Riet, Emily Beynon, and Robert Dick. Furthermore, she participated in the Dutch Flute Academy in the summer of 2012, where she received lessons from Emily Beynon, Wieke Karsten, and Jeroen Bron. During the closing concerts of this summer academy, Lydia had the opportunity to solo in venues including the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam.

In addition to her subject study and concerts, Lydia has her own teaching practice. She passionately teaches around 45 students. More information can be found under the flute lessons section on this website.Additionally, Lydia works as an orchestral and chamber musician. She is, among other things, the 1st flutist in the project orchestra Ars Musica conducted by Patrick van der Linden, where she performs the Johannes/Mattheus/Christmas Oratorio annually along with other related projects. She has also gained a lot of experience during the orchestra projects within Codarts. She often substitutes with various other orchestras, including the orchestra of the Laurenscantorij in Rotterdam.Furthermore, Lydia gives classical recitals in combination with harp/orgel/piano/harpsichord.
