Klaas Jan Mulder was born in 1930 in Boven-Hardinxveld and received his first organ and piano lessons at the Zwolle Music School. He made his debut at the age of 17 with Grieg's Piano Concerto. At the Amsterdam Conservatory, he studied under the guidance of Jacob Bijster and Jan Odé (major subjects organ and piano) and graduated "cum laude" with an award for virtuosity. Subsequently, after a comparative exam from the Ministry of Education, Culture, and Science, Mulder received one of the few scholarships available at the time to study abroad for a year with a world-renowned artist; in this case, with Eduardo del Pueyo. In addition to numerous concerts in his home country, Klaas Jan Mulder performed many times abroad, including in France, Germany, Switzerland, England, Portugal, South Korea, Canada, and America.
As a conductor, he was associated with various choirs for many years (Christian Kamper Men's Choir "Door Eendracht Verbonden", Christian Men's Choir "De Lofzang" from Heerde, and the Oratorio Association "Immanuël" in Kampen). With these choirs, he made concert tours to Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Canada, and America.Among his many record and CD recordings are two gold records and a platinum album, accounting for more than 100,000 sold LPs. Due to his significant contributions to French organ music, Klaas Jan Mulder was honored twice by the Société Académique "Arts, Sciences, Lettres" in Paris ("Médaille d’Argent" in 1990 and "Médaille Vermeil" in 2005). In 1991, Klaas Jan Mulder was appointed Knight in the Order of Orange-Nassau.
On November 1, 2008, he passed away after an illness lasting about a year, in his hometown of Kampen.
