Karel Bogerd began his singing studies together with his brother Maarten with Pieter Vis in Houten. He then came into contact with soprano Elisabeth Damen in Rotterdam through Christina Deutekom, who is known not only as a singer but also as a pedagogue. Karel came into contact with Elly Ameling, one of the greatest singers from the Netherlands. She provided him with feedback following a CD recording and by attending a concert at the Havenkerk in Alblasserdam. From this moment on, a new world opened up for Karel as she introduced him to vocal colors of which he was previously unaware.
In addition to his singing studies, Karel trained in choral conducting. One of his mentors is conductor Jan van den Driest. In 2008, Karel said goodbye to the public and started studying theology at the University of Utrecht. Occasionally, he still performed here and there. In 2014, he was affiliated as a pastoral worker with the Reformed congregation of Wouterswoude, where he was ordained as a pastor in 2016. Since 2022, Karel has been performing regularly again. For example, as a soloist, he participated in an oratorio performance on Saturday, April 8, 2023: the Mark Passion by Hans Boelee, along with his two sons, Evan Bogerd as conductor (of the Reformed Mixed Choir Rijssen) and Andries Bogerd as organist, and other musicians. Furthermore, Karel and Evan gave several lunchtime concerts at the Waterstaatkerk in Hengelo.
Furthermore, he also sings during a so-called 'Preektocht' where he brings preaching preparation methods from the Early Church out of obscurity for his colleagues. His repertoire spans the breadth of church music, with spiritual songs and children's songs holding a special place. During the years 1987-2008, Karel participated in about 50 CD recordings and, primarily from the early period, 54 MC recordings. Later, he occasionally contributed to recordings such as: 'School Songs', 'Musical Children's Party (part 3)', and 'Beloved Psalms' from the Grote or Stephanuskerk in Hasselt with his son Evan on the keys. One of the successful programs that Karel traveled the country with at the time was the 'Musical Children's Party'.
In addition, during his solo concerts, a segment 'with and for the children' was a success in engaging children by singing at a concert or song evening. Recently, he recorded a couple of CDs in the Westerkerk in Amsterdam with his son Evan: CD1 'Beloved Unique Songs' and CD2 'Classics from the Hymnology of Home and Church'.
