More than 726 times played this month

The internationally acclaimed Scottish Chamber Orchestra (SCO), one of Scotland’s National Performing Companies, was founded in 1974 and is core funded by the Scottish Government. The Orchestra brings great music to audiences across Scotland and abroad, performing at major festivals and touring internationally as ambassadors for Scottish cultural excellence.

Beyond the concert hall, the SCO makes a vital contribution to Scottish life through its extensive Creative Learning programme, working in schools, hospitals, care homes, workplaces and communities, and reaching global audiences through its Digital Season.

A new era began in 2019 with Principal Conductor Maxim Emelyanychev, whose recordings with the SCO—Schubert’s Symphony No. 9 (2019) and Mendelssohn Symphonies Nos. 3 & 5 (2023)—received widespread acclaim. The Orchestra also collaborates with renowned guest conductors such as Andrew Manze, Joseph Swensen, Lorenza Borrani and Pekka Kuusisto, and has commissioned nearly 200 new works from leading composers including Jay Capperauld, Sally Beamish, Sir James MacMillan and Sir Peter Maxwell Davies.
