Sander van den Houten
Sander van den Houten (1987) was appointed organist of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in The Hague in April 2017, making him the permanent player of the famous Bätz organ from 1762.
In Kampen, he is the titular organist of the Burgwalkerk. At the age of eight, he began studying piano and organ with Paul Kieviet in Middelharnis. He participated in competitions and won prizes at the youth soloist competition in Melissant, the ensemble competition in Oude Tonge and the Buxtehude competition in Zierikzee.
Sander completed his bachelor's degree as an organist at the Rotterdam Conservatory with Bas de Vroome. He also studied church music with Hans van Gelder, Arie Hoek, Conny de Jong and Aart Bergwerff.
In 2013, he graduated cum laude for his master's degree in organ at the ArtEZ Conservatory in Zwolle with Theo Jellema. He followed masterclasses with Willem Tanke, Harold Vogel, Jacques van Oortmerssen and Thomas Trotter.
He took private lessons in choir conducting with Wiecher Mandemaker.
In October 2023, Sander graduated with flying colours for his master's degree in carillon with Christiaan Winter and Tommy van Doorn at the Carillon School in Amersfoort, part of the HKU in Utrecht.
He is a conductor of Concertkoor Immanuel Kampen, Oratoriumvereniging 'de nieuwe ster' Zwolle, Exspecto Epe and chamber choir Arise Kampen.
He is also cantor of the Theological University of Utrecht and permanent accompanist of Cappella Campen, the Kampen Boys Choir, the Roder Jongenskoor and of Vocaal Ensemble Magnificat.
His work as a choir accompanist has taken him to England, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Denmark and Austria. In 2013 he made a concert tour to Russia where he gave a number of organ concerts in Kostroma.
Sander van den Houten gives many concerts annually as a soloist, accompanist and continuo player and has a private teaching practice.
