Conductor Rijk J. Rijkse from Krabbendijke passed away at the age of 74.
Rijk Jacobus Rijkse was active for many years as a conductor of various choirs. For example, he led the male choir Ethan from Yerseke for many years, until 2004. He also conducted the Christian Thools male choir Rehoboth from Tholen and the mixed choir Sursum Corda in Krabbendijke.
Rijkse made many LP and CD recordings with the male choirs. He also wrote various arrangements for male choir.
In the summer of 2007, on the occasion of his 70th birthday, the conductor wanted to get together one more time with all the men who had sung under his direction and give a performance. After a few rehearsals, a reunion singing and organ evening followed on June 22 in the church of the reformed community of Yerseke, in which the organists Pieter Heykoop and Bram Bout, with whom Rijkse worked a lot, also lent their support.
Rijk Rijkse died after a short illness in the hospital in Goes.
