Rien Vis was born in Leiden on 2 February 1945.
As a child he sang in a children's choir in Leiderdorp and later he played the horn in the Leiderdorpse Harmonie.
At the age of 18 he started singing with the Chr. Mixed Choir 'EXCELSIOR' in Leiderdorp where he also sang solo several times. Among others in the 'JEPHTA' by G.F. Händel and the Grote C-mol Mass by W.A. Mozart.
Marco Bakker advised him to take singing lessons in 1972. This advice was followed and he received singing lessons from Janny Göbel, Louise Verheul and the alto Willemke van Claerbergen.
He is a regular guest at many choirs in the area of Leiderdorp, Delft, The Hague and Driebergen. Since 1982 he has sung with the Bachkoor Holland conducted by Charles de Wolff.
