Richard van Asselt has been the regular organist of the Psalm Singing Association Zingt Gode Lof in Uddel since 2020. His passion for organ music began at a young age; at the age of eight, he became fascinated by the instrument for the first time. Over the years, he took organ lessons on several occasions, for shorter periods, from teachers including Jos Moeke and Dries van den Berg, both of whom inspired him on his musical journey.
His love for the Psalms lies at the heart of his musical experience. In particular, he has a strong interest in improvising introductions and interludes that complement both choral singing and congregational singing.
Although Richard considers himself an amateur organist, he is convinced that it is not the title, but the feeling and the right tone that make the music. With this conviction, he is also committed to inspiring the next generation: he teaches beginner organists, with the aim of encouraging young children to discover the joy of playing the organ.
As he puts it himself: “The organ is, and always will be, the emperor of instruments.”
