Ever since I was 3 years old, music has been a way for me to bring honor and thanks to God. Together with my family, I played as a young (and later older) boy for various churches and in nursing homes, and I became acquainted with God and the role of music in worshiping Him. As I grew older and the instruments became larger (starting with the glockenspiel, eventually marimba and piano), music also became a way for me to seek and maintain personal contact with God.
Music is more than beautiful sounds and virtuosic runs; it is a way to express my feelings and thoughts. Because music became incredibly important to me, I studied the Music Teacher Training program at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and became a music teacher/conductor. Now I am returning to the personal aspect of my passion for music and focusing on my own music, in the form of arrangements and original compositions.
During my studies at the Conservatory, I also had the privilege of taking, in addition to my main subject Marimba, other electives such as Classical Piano and Jazz Piano. This has given me many tools to better express my thoughts and feelings in my music.
In 'Reflection' I play well-known Christian songs, to which I have added my own twist. In finding my own versions of these songs, I looked at the lyrics and what these lyrics mean to me and how they affect me. I have transformed these thoughts and feelings into music to showcase the familiar melodies in my own style.
