Mannenkoor ''Ethan'', Yerseke
More than 19.9k times played this month
Ethan Yerseke Men's Choir was founded on September 9, 1966. The choir's first conductor was Mr. C. Nieuwenhuyzen, who, following an accident, had to hand over the leadership to Rijk J. Rijkse. Under his direction, the choir flourished greatly, and numerous recordings were made which found their way throughout the Netherlands. At its peak, the men's choir had 122 members. As of September 2026, the choir has more than 100 members. Since September 6, 2024, Jos Lock has been the conductor of the men's choir. The organ accompaniment is provided by organist Jacco Goud.
The repertoire of the men's choir consists of psalms, hymns, sacred songs, and patriotic songs in the Dutch language. On many occasions, singing has demonstrated the truth of the words found in the metrical version of Psalm 147, verse 1“How good it is to praise our God! It is fitting for us to sing psalms, which are pleasant and touch the heart.”
It is our wish and prayer that we may continue to share this message through our singing.
Every year, Ethan Yerseke Men's Choir participates in various singing evenings, which are always attended by many listeners. Traditionally, the choir takes part in the Advent singing evenings held in its own church building of the Reformed Congregation in Yerseke, as well as in the annual Flood Disaster Commemoration held around February 1. In addition, the men's choir receives many invitations each year, and whenever possible, we are pleased to contribute our musical participation.
Over the years, Ethan Yerseke Men's Choir has made several recordings, the proceeds of which have often been donated to charitable causes. These have included the Theological School of the Reformed Congregations, Helpende Handen, holiday weeks for people with disabilities organized by the Association of Women's Organizations, and other charitable initiatives.
There is a warm and open atmosphere within the men's choir. This atmosphere contributes to relaxation and unity among the members. As a result, whole notes, half notes, quarter notes, and even the occasional “loud note” can be sung with enthusiasm!
