What is the Christian Waddinxveens Male Choir "DE GOUWESTEM"? The Christian Waddinxveens Male Choir "De Gouwestem", abbreviated as C.W.M. "De Gouwestem", is an interdenominational regional male choir with a great reputation in the circles of lovers of male choir singing. The choir was founded on 7 September 1981 and had forty members at the time, the choir has since grown to a membership of approximately eighty-five. The name of the choir is derived from the river Gouwe on which Waddinxveen, the location of the choir, is located. The aim of the association is to practice the art of singing as a relaxing pastime. The repertoire mainly includes sacred music, but also classical music and folk music. The aim is to perform all works as originally as possible. On the one hand, the members are offered much singing pleasure and musical education, and on the other hand, the audience can enjoy the works of all kinds of more or less well-known composers. In this way, the choir makes an important contribution to the cultural activities in Waddinxveen and many other places.
Within the choir, there is an atmosphere of attractive informality, where something serious is nevertheless jointly built up and remarkable musical achievements are delivered.
