Maarten van der Spek (born on March 5, 1991 in Gouda) grew up in Moerkapelle, South Holland. From an early age, he developed a keen interest in music, which led to his first music lessons at the age of nine. His panflute training started with Marc Zwemer and was continued under the guidance of music teacher and panflute maker Ton Jansen. He then followed an in-depth study with the renowned Romanian panflute player Nicolae Pîrvu.
Maarten plays a wide range of pan flutes, including the soprano, alto, tenor and bass flute. His instruments are carefully crafted by Ton Jansen, known for his traditional quality and warm sound.
As a panflute player, Maarten is active in a variety of musical collaborations. He regularly participates in concerts with choirs and other musicians and is involved in various CD recordings. In addition, he released two solo albums: Con Amore and Con Lode.
