Lionel Meunier is an internationally acclaimed French conductor and bass, and the founder and artistic director of the award-winning Belgian ensemble Vox Luminis. He is recognized as a leading figure in the field of historical performance and choral music.
His international breakthrough came in 2012 with a Gramophone Award for Heinrich Schütz’s Musicalische Exequien. Since then, he has led Vox Luminis on global tours, artistic residencies (including Wigmore Hall and Concertgebouw Bruges), and numerous acclaimed recordings, including their second Gramophone-winning Buxtehude album.
As a guest conductor, he has worked with the Netherlands Bach Society, Danish National Vocal Ensemble, Netherlands Chamber Choir, and Juilliard 415, among others. He maintains a close collaboration with the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra and will soon make his debut with the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra.
Originally trained as a singer and recorder player, Meunier previously performed with ensembles such as Collegium Vocale Gent and the Amsterdam Baroque Choir. In 2013, he was named Namurois de l’Année (Citizen of the Year) for culture in Namur, where he lives with his family.
