Leander van der Steen started taking organ lessons at a young age at the Edese music school. In 1987, he won first prize at the organ competition for Gelderland music schools in Arnhem. He studied the main subjects of school music and organ at the Utrecht Conservatory, completing these two studies in 1996 and 1997. Furthermore, he focused on piano and orchestral and choral conducting.
Leander is the conductor of the United Veluwe Choirs, the Reformed Singing Association Cantilene, the Christian Ensemble Parlando, and the ensemble Con Passione. In addition, he is the organist at the Old Church of Ede and Hartenberg in Wekerom. Leander composes large works that have been performed under his direction at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, as well as smaller compositions like those on this album.
