Le Concert Spirituel

More than 443 times played this month

Le Concert Spirituel – choir and orchestra – was founded in 1987 by Hervé Niquet, named after France’s first private concert society of the 18th century. The ensemble performs annually in Paris and internationally, including Brussels, London, Madrid, and Warsaw, and is considered one of the world’s leading Baroque and Romantic ensembles.

Le Concert Spirituel specializes in sacred music and, together with the Centre de musique baroque de Versailles and Palazzetto Bru Zane, revives forgotten lyrical heritage. The ensemble has received prestigious awards, including the 2023 German Record Critics' Award and Opéra Magazine’s Diamant.

Collaborations span a wide range of directors and choreographers, from Karole Armitage and Georges Lavaudant to Corinne and Gilles Benizio and Vincent Tavernier. Training young musicians is also central: the ensemble hosts auditions for participation in productions and organizes workshops and open rehearsals for schools and hospitals.

This season’s highlights include La Fille de Madame Angot at the Opéra-Comique, Boismortier’s Don Quichotte chez la Duchesse in Versailles, and Molière’s Le Mariage Forcé at various French venues. Concerts include Handel’s Coronation Anthems, Vivaldi’s Gloria and Magnificat, Gounod’s vocal masses, Mozart’s Ave verum, and Fauré’s Requiem.

Since 2015, Le Concert Spirituel has an exclusive recording partnership with Alpha Classics, with releases featuring works by Vivaldi, Lully, Handel, Berlioz, and Marais.
