Laurens Vocaal

More than 41 times played this month

The Laurenscantorij is rooted in the heart of Rotterdam, the Laurenskerk. Eagerly and ambitiously, the semi-professional company sings choral music from all style periods, not only in the Laurenskerk, but also
far beyond. The talented members, including many young singers, are led by Wiecher Mandemaker. In 2005 he succeeded Barend Schuurman as artistic director of the Laurenscantorij Foundation.
This foundation also includes the Rotterdam Symphony Chorus and the Laurens Collegium Rotterdam.

Every month, the Laurenscantorij provides a cantata service in the Laurenskerk. In addition, the Laurenscantorij fulfills its role in the liturgy of two morning services per month and all church holidays.
Once a year, the choir performs the St Matthew Passion in the church service, as it once did in Bach's Thomaskirche.

The Laurenscantorij also regularly collaborates on productions by professional orchestras in the Netherlands and abroad, such as the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra.
Concertgebouw De Doelen is an important partner in this. Furthermore, the choir stimulates the development of new choral music. Concerts of the Laurenscantorij can be listened to via YouTube and Radio 4.
The intensive concert and cantata schedule occasionally includes concert tours abroad.

Particularly valuable is the close collaboration with organist Hayo Boerema. That is why works for choir and organ are given a permanent place in the Laurenscantorij's own concert programming.
