Laura van der Stoep (1978) studied violin with Emmy Verhey and Chris Duindam and viola with Prunella Pacey at the conservatory of Utrecht. In 2001, she obtained her first phase in violin there, followed by her first phase in viola, with distinction, in 2002. In the time between her violin and viola exams, she studied viola at 'The International School of Music' in San Diego, California, USA, with Michael Tseitlin.

In 2002, she continued her viola studies with Nobuko Imai at the Amsterdam conservatory, where she obtained her second phase in 2004. In June 2003, Laura was an active participant at the World Viola Festival in Kronberg (Germany), where she performed concerts alongside Yuri Bashmet, Tabea Zimmermann, and Kim Kashkashian with various international violists. Laura took masterclasses with Charles-André Linale, Kyoko Hashimoto, Thomas Riebl, Istvan Párkányi, Thomas Brandis, Hatto Beyerle, and Stefan Metz.

In September 2004, Laura was admitted to the Royal Concertgebouw Academy, a placement in the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra for the duration of 1 season and obtained the corresponding certificate. In August 2006, Laura was employed as a solo violist by the Gelders Orchestra. Between 2008 and 2010, she held a position in the Radio Chamber Philharmonic under the direction of Jaap van Zweden. Since May 2010, Laura has been employed by the Dutch Philharmonic Orchestra in Amsterdam as the deputy principal viola. In addition, she regularly works as a guest principal with, among others, The Ballet Orchestra, Philharmonie Zuid-Nederland, and Sinfonia Rotterdam.

Laura was for years closely associated with the Jenufa Quartet and ensemble A(i)rco as a chamber musician. In addition, she has contributed and continues to contribute to numerous chamber music projects (such as the International Chamber Music Festival The Hague and Festival Classique) and CD recordings, including those of the Valerius ensemble and the Ives ensemble.
