L'Achéron

L’Achéron takes its name from the river of Greek mythology that Orpheus crossed to rescue Eurydice from the underworld. Founded in 2009 by François Joubert-Caillet, the ensemble seeks to build bridges between seemingly opposing worlds: past and present, life and death. Guided by this vision, L’Achéron makes Renaissance and Baroque music accessible to today’s audiences, while remaining faithful to historical performance practices and with a strong focus on timbre and instrumentation.

The ensemble regularly engages in dialogue with other art forms and musical traditions, through collaborations ranging from Ottoman and Elizabethan music to contemporary and electronic projects. L’Achéron performs at major European venues and festivals and records for Ricercar – Outhere. Its extensive discography has been honored with awards such as the Diapason d’Or, Choc de Classica, and Echo Klassik.
