The Children's Choir De Blijde Stem was founded on November 30, 1997. Since that date, Minne Veldman has been the conductor. The choir has about 45 members.De Blijde Stem consists of children aged 4 to 12 years. Rehearsals are held weekly on Wednesday afternoons from 14:00 to 14:30 at the Rehoboth Church, Nagel 32, in Urk.
On the occasion of the five-year anniversary of De Blijde Stem, the first CD was recorded in 2002. A CD by the Reformed Male Choir Adoramus from Hoogeveen, which also features De Blijde Stem, was released in 2004. In October 2005, the first DVD of De Blijde Stem was released, and that is also the third CD. In 2007, the children's choir celebrated its 10th anniversary. To mark this occasion, a new CD was released again. The first edition was sold out within two weeks. The latest CD 'A Cheerful Song' was recorded in 2012.
