Jos Lock: My singing career began around age 10 with the "Westerkinderkoor" in 's-Gravenzande, followed by the mixed choir "Soli Deo Gloria," also in 's-Gravenzande. Then came the men's choir "Datheen" in Leiderdorp. All these choirs were conducted by Jan Rijsdam, with whom I also studied choral conducting. In 1996, I was appointed conductor of the mixed choir "Soli Deo Gloria" in Ridderkerk. In 1997, I joined the mixed choir "De Lofstem" in Barendrecht, and in 1998, the men's choir "Rehoboth" in Klaaswaal. While I was conducting the men's choir "Rehoboth," I was also the reserve conductor for the men's choir "Rehoboth" in Tholen. We accomplished some wonderful things with this choir. Among other things, we've sung at the Jaarbeurshallen during a missionary day, a Rehoboth evening in the Grote Kerk (Great Church) in Dordrecht, which also released a CD under the title "Rehobothzangers in Dordrecht," etc.
And now, in 2024, the Ethan Men's Choir. What could be more beautiful than singing psalms and hymns together? Together, we strive to interpret the texts we sing as they were intended. We've found that Ethan can sound robust, yet also tranquil. The rehearsals take place in a very relaxed atmosphere. This also contributes to the uninhibited singing, because as I've since discovered: they can sing at Yerseke.
