Jongerenkoor 'Schóschannim' Wekerom

More than 891 times played this month

The youth choir 'Schóschannim' from Wekerom was founded on April 26, 1995. Originally consisting of 17 members, it now comprises over 50 enthusiastic singers aged 14 to 35. Since its founding, the choir has been led by Wim de Graaf. The repertoire consists primarily of psalms and spiritual songs, some of which are also sung in non-Dutch hymns.
The name 'Schóschannim' is found in Psalms 45, 60, 69, and 80 and literally means 'lily'. The reason for using this word can be explained in two ways:
1. A six-stringed instrument used for singing the psalms is named after the lily, with its six petals.
2. In ancient Israel, there was a well-known song beginning with 'Schóschannim'; several psalms were sung to the tune of this song. Both a lily and a six-stringed instrument can be found in the youth choir's logo.
