John Bunyan (Elstow, Bedfordshire, November 30, 1628 - London, August 31, 1688) was an English Puritan preacher, also known as a Calvinistic Baptist. He came from a humble background. He became a preacher in Baptist communities at a later age. His preaching was simple, direct, biblical, and characterized by a verse-by-verse explanation. He wrote several books.

His fame is primarily based on his book The Pilgrim's Progress (1678; the less successful second part was published in 1684). This book has been translated into many languages, including Dutch, under the title The Christian Journey to Eternity. The book discusses, in the form of an allegory, the life of a Christian on earth. In addition to 'The Christian Journey,' Bunyan wrote a sequel titled 'The Christian Journey of the Woman'.

Bunyan described his life in an autobiography called Grace Abounding to the Chief of Sinners. In reformed circles, Bunyan is still known to this day and his books are widely read.
