Jan Zwanepol (1936-2010) received his first organ lessons at the age of seven in Kampen. Zwanepol studied at the conservatories in Zwolle and Utrecht. He took lessons from Gradus Wendt, Willem Hendrik Zwart, and Feike Asma, and received piano lessons from Klaas Jan Mulder. Jan Zwanepol trained in choir conducting and church music. As an organist and conductor, Zwanepol performed both nationally and internationally and participated in many record and CD recordings. In 1995, he received the gold medal of honor associated with the Order of Orange-Nassau.
