The HCM was founded on 16 October 1963 and started with 30 members. The first conductor was Mr. Martin Groenewold, who was succeeded by Alle Roodbergen on 9 February 1966. Under the inspiring leadership of Alle Roodbergen, the choir grew to over 200 members. Until his sudden death on 10 October 1989, Alle Roodbergen was the conductor of HCM for almost 25 years. Mr. W. Boerman from Dronten was hired as temporary conductor. Gezinus M. Veldman from Vroomshoop has been the conductor since September 1990. Due to his many qualities, he knows how to inspire the choir enormously and bring it to high performances. The Hoogeveens Christelijk Mannenkoor currently has approximately 100 members.
In addition to religious music, the choir has a versatile repertoire. During its fifty-five year existence, the choir has built up a good reputation through many concerts at home and abroad.
