Riphagen was active as a pianist and conductor. For example, he conducted the Elburg male choir OBK and the male choir Looft de Heere from Vaassen. As a pianist, he was involved in performances and recordings of choirs.
As a piano teacher, Riphagen trained a large number of students, including well-known names such as Gerlinda van den Berg, Jaap Eilander, Jorrit Woudt, Wilbert Magré and Ton Burgering.
From the end of the 80s, Riphagen formed a duo with organist Peter Eilander, in the context of anniversary concerts for the family magazine Terdege. Together they made the CD "Quatre-mains".
