Herman den Hollander began to take formal music lessons from André Knevel at the age of 15. He continued his studies in organ and conducting at Mohawk College in Hamilton, Ontario, graduating with a Diploma in Music. He then went on to Brock University in St. Catharines, Ontario, to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Music. Following this, he went to Redeemer College in Ancaster, Ontario, where he received a Bachelor of Christian Education along with a Christian School Teaching Certificate. Currently Herman teaches full-time at Rehoboth Christian School in Copetown, Ontario and conducts the Hosanna Choir of Dundas, Ontario, as well as the Mattaniah Christian Male Choir and the Rehoboth Christian School Junior Choir. Herman is also a church organist in Dundas, where he resides with his wife and four children.
