Gerd Wensink, born in 1984 in Hall, began at the age of 10 playing the cornet with Fanfare Band "Eendracht" in Eerbeek. A few years later he switched to the euphonium.

Education
After high school Gerd began studying economics at the HEAO in Arnhem. After his graduation Gerd started in 2005 studying euphonium at the ArtEZ Conservatory in Zwolle, where he studies with Bernard Beniers, tuba player of the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra. Gerd graduated his Bachelor exam in 2009 for which he also was awarded the ArtEZ Friends Price and elected best student of his year. In the same year he began his Master study euphonium at the same conservatory in Zwolle. In 2011 Gerd graduated cum laude and with honours of the exam committee.

He also had several lessons and master classes with Steven Mead, Brian Bowman and David Childs. As a soloist Gerd was Winner of the ArtEZ International Brass Festival Solo Competition 2011 and he was also in the semi-finals of the ITEC 2010.

Gerd is a Sterling Virtuoso Euphonium Artist. He is also K&G artist and plays on a Kurun & Gilbert mouthpiece, size 3D.

After his euphonium study, Gerd started in September 2011 studying Wind Band conducting at the Prince Claus Conservatory in Groningen. He studied with Tijmen Botma and graduated May 2015. Besides lessons from Tijmen Botma, Gerd also had conducting lessons with Alex Schillings, Jan Nellestijn and Isabelle Ruf-Weber (Switzerland).

Orchestras/ensembles
Next to playing solo euphonium at Fanfare Band "Eendracht" in Eerbeek, Gerd also plays solo euphonium with the Gelders Fanfare Orchestra and he plays in the ArtEZ Big Band on solo trombone. Additionally Gerd is a known guest player with various orchestras including the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra, Het Balletorkest, the Marine Band of the Royal Netherlands Navy, the Royal Air Force Band and the Fanfare Band of the Royal Netherland Army.

Conductor
As conductor Gerd conducts the Achterhoeks Fanfare Orkest, AOV Aalten, Caecilia Scherpenzeel, St. Antonius Vragender and the youth orchestras at OLTO Loenen, OBK Bennekom and Eendracht Winterswijk. He is also the bandleader of the Wenterwicked Bigband in Winterswijk and he is also a guest conductor with several other orchestras.

Music teacher
Next to being a regular guest teacher at the ArtEZ Conservatory, Gerd also teaches to various private students and he teaches at various orchestras.
