Francesco Piemontesi is a pianist renowned for his refined expression and outstanding technique. Born in Locarno, he studied with Arie Vardi and later worked closely with Alfred Brendel, Murray Perahia, Cécile Ousset and Alexis Weissenberg. He gained international recognition after winning prizes at major competitions, including the 2007 Queen Elisabeth Competition.
Since 2012, he has served as Artistic Director of the Settimane Musicali di Ascona. He performs worldwide with leading orchestras such as the Los Angeles Philharmonic, London Symphony Orchestra, Boston Symphony Orchestra and Gewandhaus Leipzig, collaborating with distinguished conductors including Vladimir Ashkenazy, Iván Fischer, Zubin Mehta and Sir Antonio Pappano.
Alongside his solo career, Piemontesi is an active chamber musician and has appeared in major venues including Wigmore Hall, the Concertgebouw, Philharmonie Berlin, the Musikverein, Carnegie Hall and Suntory Hall. In the 2020/21 season, he was artist-in-residence with the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande and performed with the Berliner Philharmoniker, Wiener Symphoniker and NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchester.
