Singer Erika de With loves nature and being outdoors. “I also really love music and singing, and I find it beautiful when combined with faith.”
She also works as a social worker on a care farm—something she never expected to do. While she’s not making music every day, she is involved with it on a weekly basis. “Some weeks more than others,” she says.
For years, she has been the regular vocalist in Christian Verwoerd’s band. Musically, they’ve done a lot together. You can hear her on the well-loved song Vol Ontzag (“In Awe”), but the song she personally finds the most beautiful is Genoeg (“Enough”). “The collaboration started at a prayer night,” she explains. “After that, we began making music together more often.”
She doesn’t officially have a CD under her own name, but it turns out Erika made a recording when she was just 11 years old. “It’s a CD with a few cover songs,” she says. “It gave me a bit of experience, although I’m not sure if it really meant anything at the time—but it definitely brought some joy. There aren’t many copies left.”
Erika also sings at Presence evenings. Stichting Presence organizes worship events throughout the country at various locations. Erika shares: “We have the opportunity to glorify God there, and sometimes I get to join. It’s very low-threshold, singing simple songs together. Seeking God together through worship and prayer for our country.”
She recalls the most recent event in Amsterdam: “We were able to pray together for the situation in Ukraine. Through the suffering, we placed our hope in God together.”
