Dick was the first conductor of the Zaans Interkerkelijk Mannenkoor (ZIM). The ZIM was founded in October 1983 with 42 men. Conductor Dick Vermeulen and organist Dub de Vries were asked and in January 1984 the first rehearsals took place. The enthusiasm was so great that there were already 68 members at the first rehearsal and within six months the choir grew to 100 men. Thanks to the enthusiastic leadership of Dick Vermeulen the choir grew into a much sought after male choir in and outside the Zaanstreek. At the end of 1998 Dick said goodbye to the ZIM after having been conductor for 15 years. Dick Vermeulen passed away on January 4, 2016
