The choir ASAF was founded on 6 June 1945 under the name Christian Men's Choir "ASAF" and consisted of 16 members at the time. It was a merger of the existing men's choir "Sursum Corda" (9 members) and the newly founded choir.
Already a month after the foundation of the men's choir, the women's choir "ASAF" followed, for which 35 members registered. In 1947, the children's choir "ASAF" and the young women's choir "ASAF" were then founded. People now speak of "ASAF's Choirs". On 15 September 1960, it was decided to merge these choirs, except for the children's choir, into one mixed choir. This mixed choir started with 35 members and has grown into a choir that currently consists of approximately 55 members.
Various conductors have conducted the choir in recent years, including Eef de Kwant, Jan Stolk, Frans van Tilburg, Martin Zonnenberg, Jan Mulder and Ton van der Horst. Since 2007, the choir has been under the enthusiastic leadership of conductor Hans van Blijderveen.
In recent years, the choir has contributed to the recording of several CDs, including the well-known Christmas Doelen concerts in Rotterdam. In addition, nine of its own CDs have been released, including one with Passion and Easter songs, six with sacred music of various genres, a Psalm CD and a Christmas CD. At the invitation of the Evangelische Omroep, the choir has contributed to radio and TV recordings on several occasions.
