Belcea Quartet

More than 207 times played this month

The Belcea Quartet is known for its passionate, precise, and emotionally powerful performances. Bringing together diverse backgrounds—Romanian violinist Corina Belcea, Korean-Australian Suyeon Kang, Polish violist Krzysztof Chorzelski, and French cellist Antoine Lederlin—the ensemble blends artistic traditions to create exceptional interpretations.

Their repertoire ranges from classical masters like Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven to modern composers such as Bartók, Janáček, and Szymanowski. They also champion new music, commissioning works by composers including Guillaume Connesson, Joseph Phibbs, and Krzysztof Penderecki.

The quartet’s acclaimed discography includes complete recordings of Beethoven, Bartók, Brahms, and Britten string quartets, alongside works by Berg, Schoenberg, and Shostakovich. Their Brahms Sextets (with Tabea Zimmermann and Jean-Guihen Queyras) were released in 2022, with more to come via Alpha Classics in 2024.

Notable past projects include the Beethoven cycle at Vienna’s Konzerthaus and a residency at Berlin’s Pierre Boulez Hall (2017–2020). Since 2010, they’ve co-curated a string quartet series in Vienna, now joined by Quatuor Ébène.
