Founded in 1908, the Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia was the first orchestra in Italy to focus exclusively on symphonic music. Since Sir Antonio Pappano took over as Musical Director in 2005, the orchestra has greatly gained in prestige, obtaining widespread international recognition.
The Archi di Santa Cecilia and Luigi Piovano have been working together since 2013, when their first concert featuring music by Schubert in Rome was described as a «clamorous success» by Luigi Bellingardi in the Corriere della Sera newspaper. From the following year, their concert schedule expanded to include numerous eminent concert venues throughout Italy as well as a busy recording program. Devoted to Schubert, their first CD met with widespread acclaim in the international press and was followed by the Serenades of Dvořák and Tchaikovsky, by “Cinema for Strings” (2017) with music by Rota, Morricone and Piovani, and by a Mozart recording (2020).
