The Academy of the Annunciata is a period-instrument orchestra founded in 2009 in Abbiategrasso (Milan), in the Leonardesque building of the former Convento dell’Annunciata, an architectural jewel built by Duke Galeazzo Maria Sforza in the second half of the fourteenth century.
Over the years, under the leadership of Riccardo Doni, the orchestra’s repertoire has embraced a wide range of periods and styles, from the baroque of Bach, Handel and Vivaldi to the classicism of Mozart and early Beethoven, with a particular focus on rediscovering Italian authors rarely included in the concert programmes, such as Francesco Durante, Felice Dall’Abaco and Felice Giardini.
The orchestra has collaborated with soloists such as Giuliano Carmignola, Mario Brunello, Enrico Onofri, Paolo Beschi, Evangelina Mascardi, Sonia Prina and Filippo Mineccia. With Giuliano Carmignola in 2016 they made the first modern recording of the 6 Violin Concertos op. 15 by Felice Giardini. Since 2018 the Academy of Annunciata record exclusively for Arcana. In the same year they realized a recording with Mario Brunello and Giuliano Carmignola, ""Sonar in Ottava"" (BBC Music Magazine's Concerto Choice).
In 2019 they recorded with Mario Brunello a program dedicated to Giuseppe Tartini, obtaining the ""Diapason d’or"" in January 2021. Soon to be released, again with Mario Brunello, a CD with music by J.S. Bach.
