Rutger Valentijn Mauritz began his musical career by taking violin lessons but eventually decided to pursue a major in choral conducting and church music at the conservatories of Utrecht and Maastricht. During and after his studies, he sang in various highly esteemed choirs such as the Domcantorij of Utrecht and the Kölner Kammerchor. He also served as a guest conductor with the Ensemble Vocal de Luxembourg and conducted ensembles at the Codarts Conservatory in Rotterdam, the Royal Conservatory of The Hague, and the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp.

After completing his Master's degree in choral and orchestral conducting in Maastricht, he also finished a university program at the Faculty of Arts and Culture at Maastricht University. Since 2016, he has been working as a cantor at the Grote of Maria Magdalenakerk in Goes. Additionally, he is involved as an artistic advisor for professional performing arts at the Performing Arts Fund in The Hague and at the cultural department of the city of Rotterdam. He is also the chairman of the foundation Zaterdagmiddagmuziek Domkerk Utrecht.
